For the past 33 years, the NOAA National Sea Grant College Program has operated a highly regarded extension system in each of the 30 university-based Sea Grant College Programs located in each coastal and Great Lakes state. The Sea Grant Extension Program is a clientele-driven, educational program comprised of skilled specialists who disseminate research-based scientific information in an objective and non-advocative manner. Extension agents seek to apply knowledge and understanding gained through research to aid individuals and groups. The overall goal of extension education is to effect change by having individuals, groups, or institutions use science-based information.
