What is authentication?
Authentication is that process that an end user (that's you!) goes through when logging onto a web site that verifies that the person is who he claims to be. Typically an end user enters a user ID (or login ID, account name, user name, etc.) and a password (or PIN). We refer to these as "credentials." The organization that originally issued the user ID and password to you is called an Identity Provider.
