Center for Science & Public Policy

Since 1975, The Keystone Center has been helping leaders in the public, private, and civic sectors solve problems and advance good public policy. Through neutral, independently organized, well managed discussions, we assist groups in acquiring the scientific, economic, and political information they need to make collective decisions.

The Keystone Center for Science & Public Policy specializes in facilitating scientific and policy outcomes that are enabled by expert science, careful convening, and skilled process - this enables leaders from governmental, non-governmental, industrial, and academic organizations to find productive solutions to controversial and complex public policy issues. The Center promotes collaborative and cooperative solutions with an eye toward greater stability and consensus. The result? Tangible actions, new partnerships, and reduced conflict.

We apply our knowledge, tools, and craft in three policy areas: Energy, Environment, and Health/Social Policy. Our key products are consensus-driven decisions, plans, and agreements that advance sound policies and practices in these areas. The key components of all Keystone projects include:

  • Involving those most affected by decisions sometimes transforming former adversaries into shared-goal partners

  • Integrating the best scientific and technical information available

  • Building trust and understanding

  • Cultivating leadership and collaborative decision-making

  • Ensuring that solutions are implemented and contain mechanisms to address future conflicts
