Henry "Hy" Mayer is the illustrator of this suffragist poster. Mayer was a prolific illustrator in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His subject matter was frequently current events and social themes. He moved from New York to Hollywood and started to produce animation and live action movies as a writer, animator, producer and director. He produced over 100 films from 1913-1926. Alice Duer Miller wrote the poem used in this illustration. Miller paid her way through Barnard College by selling novels and short essays. She mainly wrote light fiction but also dedicated herself to suffrage issues. She wrote a satiric column in the New York Tribune entitled, "Are Women People?" In the 1920's, some of her stories were used for movies and she did the screen writing for them. She became famous for her book, "The White Cliffs", written in 1940.
