Introduction to Organizational Learning (formerly Organizational Learning Core Competency Program) introduces the core competencies required for building learning organizations. The program provides you with new tools and methods but is primarily focused on leadership practices and disciplines. During the three days, you are encouraged to think about your role in creating a work climate that encourages learning and quality performance. The program provides the opportunity to work on both an organizational and personal level. This course is designed as an intensive and comprehensive residential introduction to organizational learning. It is intended both for individuals and for management teams interested in working together to apply organizational learning concepts within their organization. Participants need to be genuinely interested in attending, open to different ways of learning and in a position to support further work in their organizations. The program provides learning opportunities in each of the five disciplines: building shared vision, systems thinking, personal mastery, mental models and team learning. Building a Shared Vision As a leader, you have the opportunity to understand the importance of having a personal vision for yourself and for your organization. Helping your team to build a shared vision and sustain the energy to realize its goals gives meaning to work and provides the opportunity for exceptional performance. Systems Thinking Systems thinking teaches us to see systemic patterns that are common in our organizations, personal life and society. In recognizing the patterns we are able to find "leverage points" for our choices. The ability to assess the highest point of leverage maximizes our efficiency and allows us to anticipate both the intended and unintended consequences of our decisions. Systems thinking provides leaders with a powerful tool to help teams think critically and strategically together. Personal Mastery Personal mastery refers to the process of lifelong learning and change that is necessary for leaders who want to provide service to their organizations. Leaders will have the opportunity to understand the importance of working from a position of aspiration and creativity as well as response and problem solving. Team Learning and Mental Models True learning involves the suspension of our preconceptions and assumptions. For teams to think together and communicate effectively, they need to go beyond the preconceived notions each member brings to the organization. Leaders will learn how to model new ways to listen and understand one another. Audience This course is designed as an intensive and comprehensive residential introduction to the concepts, methods and tools for building learning organizations for leaders. It is also intended for management teams interested in working together to apply organizational learning tools and methods to organizational issues in the context of their organization. Participants need to be genuinely interested in attending, be open to a different experience, and be in position to support further work in their organizations.
