Edward Hugh Sothern, was born in New Orleans in 1859 during one of his actor father's American tours. Educated in England, he turned from a career as an artist to follow the paternal footsteps in the theatre. His New York debut in 1879 was ruined by an attack of stage fright so paralyzing that he could not speak his lines. However, he persisted and after considerable stock-company experience made a great success. Known primarily for renditions of Shakespeare, Sothern was a versatile actor and he made his New York debut in 1879 and became a member of Daniel Frohman's Lyceum Theater Company. He died in 1932 Born in 1868 and better known for years as Mrs. E.H. Southern, Virginia Harned was a successful leading lady for many years acting in both Shakespeare and contemporary plays. She was considered capable of a wide range of acting styles and gained much of her early experience with road companies. In 1887 she was engaged to act opposite of E.H. Sothern, married him in 1886, and traveled widely together as part of the Frohman acting group. She died in 1946 Strobridge Litho Co. was one of the premier poster printers and designers for several decades and their designs and printing are still in high demand by the poster collecting public and institutions.
