FeedBeast is a shareware RSS Reader for Windows[1] first published in 2007 by The Little Software Company. It is built upon a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition database engine, which is an embedded database system capable of efficiently handling the significant quantities of data needed in a desktop RSS program.
FeedBeast is written entirely in C# with a few Win32 calls thrown in for more advanced features, and is currently based on the .NET 2.0 framework. Future versions are planned to take advantage of the .NET 3.5 framework including WPF, WCF, and LINQ.
Version 1.6 is currently under development and will include a host of new and requested features to help bring FeedBeast to a level comparable to its competitors in areas such as online synchronization, feed organization, and media support. Enhancements include:
- Reworked, more stable engine with greater concurrency
- Synchronization with Google Reader
- A unique feed tagging mechanism instead of the traditional folder hierarchy
- Support for RSS enclosures, including podcasts
- A feed ticker that scrolls articles along the top or bottom of the screen
- Internet Explorer integration and feed protocol handling
...as well as various minor features and improvements.
Version 1.6 is currently in beta testing, and is available as a pre-release download at FeedBeast Online.
Version 1.5 was released on October 19, 2007. Enhancements in it include:
- Faster, more efficient engine
- More intuitive browser-oriented user interface
- Tabbed browsing with tab recall and thumbnail preview
- Watchwords allow to watch for specific words to appear in articles
- Text-to-speech reads and announces articles
- Internet Explorer favorites integration
- OPML Import/Export, renameable feeds

FeedBeast requires the Microsoft .NET framework version 2.0, however the included installer takes care of installing this if needed, as well as (recommended):
- Microsoft Windows XP or Windows Vista
- 512 MB RAM
- 40 GB hard disk
- a high-speed Internet connection
