Conference Program: The 3rd National Conference featured sessions in seven programmatic themes:
The 5-day Conference offered over 82 sessions exploring the latest advances in all aspects of habitat restoration - from planning and design to monitoring and evaluation, and from science and practice to partnerships and community involvement. The Conference drew participants from throughtout the United States and the world - including China, Belgium, The Netherlands, Vietnam, New Zealand, Nigeria, England, Canada, and Cote-d'Ivoire - to learn about the challenges facing our coasts and estuaries. These participants represented all segments of the restoration community, including businesses and corporations, governments at all levels, tribes, non-profit organizations, and scientific and academic professionals. Forging the National Imperative The need to restore the health of our coasts has never been more apparent or more urgent. At the 2006 Conference, participants explored the challenges ahead in strengthening the national commitment to restoration. and what it will take to capture the attention of the public and mobilize the nation to act. Overall, the conference succeeded in reuniting all the groups that have a stake in the restoration of our coasts and estuaries. The Conference had a lasting impact on those who attended, and will be recognized as an invaluable next step leading to the restoration of our coastal areas. |
