The World Agroforestry Centre is supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The Centre generates science-based knowledge about the complex role that trees play in agricultural landscapes, and uses its research to ensure that policies and practices benefit the poor and the environment. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, the Centre conducts research in 23 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The World Agroforestry Centre headquarters in Nairobi hosted the 9th Session of the CGIAR Science Council from 27 March to 1 April 2008.  Full Story

Southeast Asia Region co-hosts forum on biodiversity and climate

More than 130 delegates took part in a conference on biodiversity and climate change co-organized by the World Agroforestry Centre Southeast Asia regional office in Manila, the Philippines, at the end of February 2008.  Full Story

World Agroforestry Fellows

Dr. Howard Yana-Shapiro and Dr. Roger Leakey have been named World Agroforestry Centre Fellows. The two eminent scientists were awarded the certificates for their outstanding contribution to the cause of agroforestry worldwide.  Full Story

Board approves new Strategic Plan

The Board of Trustees has approved the World Agroforestry Centre’s new Strategic Plan 2008-2015. The strategy consolidates the Centre’s work around six Global Research Priorities (GRPs) that correspond with key global challenges, such as poverty alleviation, climate change and environmental protection. Full Story

Women's Postdoctoral Research Fellowships scheme is launched

Promoting landcare practices: A case study of the Philippines

Rapid environmental degradation is common in upland areas across the tropics. Technical solutions are available to address problems such as soil erosion and loss of biodiversity, but adoption of these remedies by farmers is limited.  Full Story
