Summary

This project focuses on developing a methodology for risk assessment which can be used to characterize the interactions of the components in complex mixtures at toxic waste sites. Continued development of biological test methods for characterizing the toxic potential of complex mixtures, and for assessing the human health hazard of exposure to these mixtures are pursued. Assessing the human health risk of exposure to chemical wastes at Superfund sites is an extremely complex task. Many wastes occur as mixtures of hundreds of organic and inorganic compounds. Procedures are also being investigated for chemical and biological remediation of contaminated waste sites.
