Tribal Law and Order...

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Law and Order Department was established around February of 1986.

Today it consists of 16 officers, 10 detention officer / dispatchers, 3 drug investigators, 3 community officers, a police clerk and one police cook.

The dispatcher/ detention guards are responsible for answering the phone calls from the public and dispatching Police Officers, Fish and Wildlife Officers, Ambulance, Fire, Hazmat and other emergency personnel as well as taking care of inmates needs at the tribal jail.

The police department provides services twenty-four hours a day seven days a week. In addition to investigating crimes and taking reports from individuals the officers also provide security for several tribal functions, including meetings, polls, Pow-Wows, funerals, buildings, and sites which may require extra patrol.

The Community Service Officers will assist with the security at school functions and events when they finish their training in December of 2002.

The Drug Task Force Officers respond as part of the North West Drug Task Force, which covers a five county area that encompasses most of Western Montana. Contact number is 676-8212
All of the Officers, Community Service Officers and the Task Force are available to give talks and presentations at schools or community events.
Officers do safety presentations at Halloween for the head start kids and deliver presents donated by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai employees at Christmas.
