Category-Based Rating and Selection: A Workshop

Overview:
Learn how to use one of the newer human resources flexibilities: category rating, an alternate and streamlined method for evaluating candidates for federal jobs. This course covers the appropriate use of category-based rating; the application of Veteran's Preference under Public Law 107-296; the preparation of certificates for the selecting official; and the proper selection of candidates from the certificate.
Who Should Attend?
Human resources specialists, hiring officials and federal supervisors and managers who are involved in the federal recruiting staffing or placement process.

Objectives:
  • Identify the goals of category rating and selection as an alternative means of assessing and selecting candidates
  • Define and describe the quality categories that are used with category rating and selection
  • Apply Veterans' Preference as prescribed in the Homeland Security Act
  • Place qualified applicants into the appropriate category and prepare properly ordered certificates
  • Assure that proper selections are made from the certificates
