Allegheny County Health Department

Department of Human Services
DHS services include: Programs serving the elderly, mental health services (includes 24-hour crisis counseling); drug and alcohol services; child protective services; at-risk child development and education; hunger services; emergency shelters and housing for the homeless; energy assistance; non-emergency medical transportation; job training and placement for youth and adults; and services for individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.

ACHA is the public housing authority for Allegheny County and provides information on Low-Income Public Housing Application Procedure. -
ALCOSAN (Allegheny County Sanitary Authority)
ALCOSAN is responsible for the collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of sewage in Allegheny County, and certain adjacent areas and the collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of such industrial wastes as shall be acceptable to the Authority within said territory. The Authority’s service area is made up of the City of Pittsburgh and 82 neighboring municipalities in Allegheny County and parts of communities in Washington and Westmoreland Counties. The Authority serves an area of approximately 225 square miles with a population of about 900,000. -

Allegheny Regional Asset District
The District is an areawide special purpose unit of local government created by an act of the State Legislature that uses one-half of 1% local sales tax to fund regional assets. The other half of the sales tax provides funds for county and local government tax reform. -
Pittsburgh International Airport
Allegheny County Airport Authority manages the Pittsburgh International Airport (FlyPittsburgh.com) and the Allegheny County Airport. -
