Guidelines: Slide Presentation

Overview

This slide presentation provides recommendations for schools to follow in order to be safer places for students to learn and to teach students the skills they need to prevent unintentional injuries and violence at home, at play, at work, and throughout their lives. The presentation describes a CDC report entitled School Health Guidelines to Prevent Unintentional Injuries and Violence. It also includes information about adolescent violence, suicide, and unintentional injury; why it is important to focus on schools; and what schools do to prevent injuries and violence.

Goals
The goals of the slide presentation are to

  • Provide basic information about the problems of adolescent violence, suicide, and injury, and what schools are doing to prevent injuries and violence;

  • Raise awareness about the CDC School Health Guidelines to Prevent Unintentional Injuries and Violence; and

  • Help education and health agencies, community organizations, parents, and schools prevent unintentional injuries and violence on and away from school property.

Learning Objectives
After attending this presentation, participants should be able to

  • Describe the School Health Guidelines to Prevent Unintentional Injuries and Violence;

  • Describe the problems of adolescent violence, suicide, and injury, and what schools are doing to prevent injuries and violence; and

  • Identify strategies that can be used in their schools to prevent injuries and violence.

CDC encourages education and health agencies, community organizations, parents, and school personnel to download and present these slides. The knowledge gained as a result of attending this presentation will help schools prevent unintentional injuries and violence.
