Monitoring Pesticides in Water: Lake Wales Ridge

GROUND-WATER STUDY

The ground-water study was initiated in 1999 and monitoring is ongoing. It is supported by cooperative agreement between the U.S. Geological Survey, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the ground-water study are to provide early warning of agrichemicals leaching into the ground water system, to describe temporal trends, and to gain insight into factors influencing the transport and fate of agricultural chemicals in the subsurface. The well network is envisioned to be monitored long term (20 or more years).

The network will be expanded in the near future to include additional monitoring wells in residential and urban/industrial areas and in non-citrus agricultural areas.
