Overview:
Prepare for your new position as an equal employment opportunity (EEO) counselor. You study the fundamentals of discrimination, informal inquiry, protected groups, sexual harassment, EEO laws and legal considerations, burdens of proof, report writing, and the rights and responsibilities of employees and management. You also learn to collect, analyze and prepare information pertinent to discrimination allegations of all types.

Objectives:
  • Discuss communication skills needed in EEO counseling
  • Conduct an initial EEO complaint interview
  • Inform parties of their rights and responsibilities
  • Prepare a plan of inquiry to develop a course of action
  • Interview witnesses including the responsible management official(s) and the accused
  • Gather, review and summarize, relevant documents
  • Analyze and present the data gathered to the parties
  • Apply conflict resolution skills to assist parties in resolving the issue(s)
  • Explain the formal complaint process to the aggrieved
  • Review reporting, notification, and special procedures under the laws
  • Outline the EEO counselor’s report
