Overview:
Many federal agencies either already have or are in the process of replacing their Title 5 classification, compensation and performance management systems with pay-for-performance systems. An administration proposal would abolish the General Schedule and Federal Wage systems and replace them with pay-for-performance systems by 2010. To meet the needs of agencies that have implemented or soon will be implementing pay-for-performance systems, as well as those using Title 5 systems, this course discusses basic, crosscutting principles needed to classify and analyze positions in all systems, including pay banding. The purpose of this course is to provide you with the principles and procedures associated with the systems used in federal classification and to help you improve the analytical skills you need to ask good questions about position duties and design.

This course is not a substitute for the 10-day Basic Position Classification course (CLAS7000D).

This course is also part of the Certificates of Accomplishment in Human Resources Management.

Who Should Attend?
This course is for HR staff classifying positions within a Title 5 system, as well as those applying alternative classification and compensation systems. This includes HR and human capital office staff; managers and supervisors (including those who will be classifying positions under alternative systems); traditional administrative staff; and all others who need to know how to evaluate the level and pay of federal positions.
