Thank you for your interest in
career opportunities with the Monsanto Vegetable Division, a division that includes
De Ruiter Seeds,
Seminis Seeds and the
International Seeds Group.
At Monsanto, we are committed to recruiting and retaining the
best individuals through our team-oriented culture that
encourages creativity, decision-making, and entrepreneurial
spirit.
We currently have openings for up to four plant
scientists with expertise in pathology, physiology or
biochemistry to lead the discovery of new traits in major
vegetable crops, such as tomato, pepper, cucurbits and lettuce.
These positions will be located at the Seminis R&D sites in Woodland, California
or Wageningen, The Netherlands, or at the De Ruiter R&D
site in Bergschenhoek, The Netherlands. Discovery
scientists are key members of teams that support our vegetable
product pipeline by identifying and transferring genes for new
traits to elite germplasm. Team members, including pathologists,
cell and molecular biologists, biochemists, physiologists,
geneticists, plant breeders and marketing specialists, work
together to identify and develop new vegetable products that
bring value to growers, processors, retailers and consumers.
Discovery scientists initiate, lead or participate in research
projects and strategic initiatives aimed at delivering new
sources of resistance to biotic (e.g. viruses, fungi, bacteria,
insects, nematodes), tolerance to abiotic stress factors, or
biochemical and physiological characteristics related to fruit
and vegetable quality.
Responsibilities:
- Develop novel approaches
for high impact diseases and stress resistances (pathology),
yield increase and novel or improved agronomic traits (plant
physiology), or improved product quality attributes
(biochemistry).
- Develop phenotyping assays
and explore germplasm collections for new traits and novel
natural genetic variation of existing traits.
- Recommend on
prioritization of research activities and develop
product-oriented strategic initiatives.
- Manage strategic
initiatives within a multidisciplinary environment,
resulting in the transfer of favorable traits into breeding
germplasm, and the development of new varieties with
favorable attributes.
- Contribute to revealing
the genetics underlying the trait.
- Support Monsanto's
freedom-to-operate by filing invention disclosures and
assisting with patent applications.

biology, PhD in plant-microbe interaction, plant pathology,
plant physiology, biochemistry or related disciplines.

skills.
- Ability to work
effectively among interdisciplinary teams.
- A decisive, innovative and
creative personality.
Desired
Experience/Education/Attributes:
