POSITION:  Breeder Root and Bulb

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate for our location in Wageningen to strengthen our Research & Development department in the position of Breeder Root and Bulb (m/f, fulltime)

The job

As a breeder you manage a breeding program for Root and Bulb to obtain new successful products.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a germplasm pool to ensure successful results

  • Fully responsible for parental lines and hybrids to ensure the viability of the program

  • Collaborate with other research departments: plan with station manager the needs for the program, with pathology to ensure resistant material and with biotech to get better/faster information about the breeding program. To be up to date regarding market information to better focus the breeding program

  • Contribute to crop team to develop the correct decisions regarding life cycles

  • Collaborate with external institutions to get results on particular research matters

  • Stay within budgetary and safety guidelines

Your qualifications

  • Master in plant sciences discipline, preferably plant breeding, or equivalent with a minimum of 5+ years experience in a research and/or development environment

  • Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought

  • Experience with Plant Breeding/Genetics/Statistical analysis and/or molecular biology is a plus

  • You feel comfortable with field and greenhouse work

  • Excellent communication skills including the capability to clearly present information and influence or persuade others through oral or written communications (multilingual in Dutch/English)

  • Result oriented and problem solving skills

  • Team player and willing to work with diverse cultural groups

  • Self-motivated, creative person able to work with minimal supervision

  • Organized, with good record keeping skills

  • Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office applications
