POSITION:  Research Assistant, Germplasm Maintenance

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate for our location in Wageningen to strengthen our Research & Development department in the position of Research Assistant, Germplasm Maintenance (m/f, fulltime)

The job

In this position you will set up seed increase cycles for wild and unadapted plant materials.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Transplanting, pollinating, harvesting, seed processing and packaging, and seed storage management

  • Accurate phenotype collection, analysis and reporting

  • Monitor crops for disease and off types

  • Coordinate soil born disease testing and seed treatments

  • Assist with database setup and management of germplasm database

  • Possibly supervise contract labor

Your qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in plant biology (HBO) or a specialized professional (MBO level 4) in an agricultural discipline

  • Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office applications

  • Organized, with good record keeping skills

  • Self-motivated, creative person able to work with minimal supervision

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Comfortable with field and greenhouse work

  • Experience with vegetable crops, Genetics / Plant Breeding /Statistical analysis and/or molecular biology is a plus

  • Results and detail-oriented and ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment
