POSITION:  Seed Technology Research Associate, EMEA

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate for our location in Enkhuizen to strengthen our Seed Technology department in the position of Seed Technology Research Associate, EMEA (m/f, fulltime)

The job

The candidate will be an integral part of the Seed Technology team, responsible for conducting and analyzing multi-discipline research experiments aimed at improving seed quality and plantability. The individual will be capable of working independently and in a group setting successfully. Travel may be necessary on an occasional basis to Seminis international locations (Europe, USA).

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Participate in (and be comfortable with) multiple research projects group focused on seed quality improvements. 

  • Demonstrate strong technical, analytical and troubleshooting skills in the area of seed enhancement (priming, pelleting, drying and storage, conditioning, seed treatment and sanitation).

  • Using appropriate laboratory tools and resources including germination chambers, plug testing facilities, and analytical instruments to identify measurable, distinguishing features and characteristics during young plant development, as well as documenting findings.

  • Work with Seed Technology scientists and production staff to support and evaluate priming, coating and seed treatments and technology enhancements.

  • Develop and/or optimize new or existing seed enhancement protocols

  • Perform a variety of research laboratory tasks and experiments, collect data, analyze data and interpret results.

  • Write reports, summaries, and protocols regarding experiments.

  • Actively participates in Seminis ESH (Environment, Safety, Health) Program.

Your qualifications

Minimum: M.S. degree with at least 2 years commercial experience in seed research.
Preferred: Ph.D in Agronomy, Vegetable Science, Seed Technology, Seed Physiology, or Plant Biology.

  • Functional and technical proficiency to include seed or other agriculture experience

  • Result oriented leadership capability

  • Excellent communications skills including the capability to clearly present information and influence or persuade others through oral or written communications

  • Decision making and problem solving skills. Capability to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues

  • Capability to work with and lead people in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitments to goals and objectives

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced global and multi-cultural vegetable seed company

  • Use of statistical analysis in problem solving and decision making
