Scientist/Senior
Research Associate, Field Traits
Ceres is a leading developer of high-yielding energy crops
that can be planted as feedstock for biofuel and bioenergy
production. Ceres development efforts cover several energy crop
species, including Switchgrass and Sorghum. Ceres now seeks a
Scientist or a senior Research Associate to join our team of
College Station, Texas based breeders and plant trait
biologists.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Work as a team member,
interacting within Field Traits, within College Station, and
between College Station and Thousand Oaks
-
Take direction but execute on
Field Traits functions independently and decisively
-
Take responsibility for
design, deployment and day-to-day management of field trials
in accordance with business goals
-
Be focused and detail-oriented
and ensure data collection from field trials is to high
scientific standards
-
Be open to learning field
trait biology on a steep curve, including agronomy practice
and intersections with breeding programs
-
Be adaptable to changing
situations
-
Communicate frequently and
effectively
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
PhD or MS degree in plant
biology, plant breeding, genetics, crop science or agronomy
-
Background in/significant
exposure to, statistical design and analysis of plant field
trials
-
Ability to work independently
and decisively
-
Ability to work effectively in
a team and across different locations
-
Four or more years of relevant
experience
-
Farm experience desired
-
Good note taking, written and
oral communication skills
-
Valid driver’s license

low temperature conditions in field or greenhouse

during time-critical periods of the growing season
WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE
PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Field, greenhouse, laboratory
and office

Domestic and international
travel required with occasional overnight stays

Stays at off-season
production/nursery locations may extend to two to three
weeks

Potential allergens, pollen,
fungal spores and chemical pesticides in the field or
greenhouse

Research and farm equipment
operation such as tractors, planters, pesticide sprayers,
and combines will essential.
