Monsanto is seeking a
highly motivated individual with the ability to work as a member
of a multidisciplinary breeding team in Waterman, Illinois.
Incumbent will ensure that site staff is trained in all ESH
(Environment, Safety and Health) procedures, regulatory and
compliance protocols, and business conduct protocols.
The Testing & Operation Manager is responsible for all
day-to-day operations of the testing program as well as the
coordination operation at the breeding team. The Manager reports
to the appropriate Regional Commercial Breeding Lead but
consults with the co-located Commercial Breeder and Line
Development Breeders on site needs, individual program needs and
work priorities and sees that they are accomplished. Incumbent
will maintain a responsibility matrix to ensure efficient work
flow and work load balancing.
The Testing & Operation Manager may also be responsible for the
management of open-pollinated inbred crossing blocks if any are
assigned to the site. The incumbent is responsible for acquiring
and maintaining adequate facilities and equipment for effective
and efficient functioning of all programs. The incumbent's team
will process hybrid seed for Monsanto Testing and packet and set
up Pre-Commercial experiments as required. The incumbent will
oversee a yield testing program which will lead to the
development of improved inbred lines and the advancement of
superior hybrids and traits targeted to the site's geographical
area of responsibility. The incumbent will administer a yield
testing program including the recruiting, training, development
and retention of personnel as well as budget management.
Requirements
-
Master’s
degree in Agronomy, Plant Breeding or a related field with 3
or more years of project management experience in an
agriculture-related research position; or a Bachelor’s
degree in an agricultural field and 8 or more years of
project management experience in an agriculture-related
position.

Broad
knowledge of crop production, farming practices and farm
equipment operation and repair.

Proven
team leadership, organizational and recordkeeping skills.

Ability
to write and speak English fluently.

Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills.

Solid
working knowledge of statistics, experimental design and
computer skills related to data acquisition, organization
and data analysis.

Class A
CDL or the ability to obtain one.
-
The
individual may be called on to work at a winter nursery site
for a three-week period in the January-February timeframe.
