Job Description
The Research Station Manager will
be a member of the Seed Activities team within the BASF
Plant Science organization. This team performs critical
activities necessary to advance BPS's plant breeding and
biotechnology projects from idea to marketplace as fast and
effectively as possible.

Overall responsibility for
management of the Kekaha facilities including security,
safety, and environmental health programs for both the
Seed Activities and Development groups, and Responsible
Care programs for the Seed Activities group. Provide
primary management of administrative staff.

Provide input to develop,
and subsequently manage both operating and capital
expenditure budgets for the Seed Activities group in
Kekaha. Review and approve invoices for the Seed
Activities group, as applicable.

Provide leadership to the
Seed Activities and Development groups in writing and
complying with shared core process protocols for site
administration of the Kekaha facility, where
appropriate.

Identify and manage
relationship(s) with temp labor providers, and identify
best methods to meet the labor needs of Seed Activities
and Development groups during periods of peak workload,
while controlling temp labor costs during off-peak
periods.
Provide 1) 'primary management' of temp labor
procurement and scheduling for the Seed Activities
group, and 2) 'management support' for the temp labor
needs of the Development group, by identifying temp
labor sources and supply solutions that meet peak period
demands while controlling off-peak temp labor costs.

Work closely with BASF
Purchasing group to assure compliance with all policies
and protocols used to procure equipment, building
supplies and other required items; establish and
maintain service agreements and contracts with BASF
'preferred' vendors for the Seed Activities and
Development groups at the Kekaha site.

Lead the local management
team, with input and guidance from line managers in the
following: equipment procurement and shipping, fleet
vehicle management, work space and storage utilization,
and BPS representation at external seed and biotech
meetings.
Qualifications Required
-
M.S. Degree plus 8 years
relevant experience or B.S. and 10 years relevant experience
in business management. BASF recognizes Institutions of
Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for
Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.

Demonstrated experience
hiring, training and managing employees.

Demonstrated experience
executing or supervising quality assurance or quality
control programs or processes.

Good computer skills in
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and in other
software used in plant breeding or quality assurance.
Preferred
-
Demonstrated experience in
managing a site, either in the tropics or on the mainland
US.

Demonstrated experience
managing production of regulated maize and/or rice and/or
soybean seed.

Experience with
process/workflow development and implementation within the
seed industry.

Previous experience working in
a winter nursery or contra-season environment.
