Leader, Traits
Cibus LLC, a privately held San Diego-based trait
development company that produces environmentally-friendly crop
traits for the agricultural community, has the following
position available:
PROJECT LEADER – TRAITS
Position Summary:
Ensures
that product development for crop-based projects meet
timelines and milestones through general oversight/timeline
review of projects from the time development activities are
initiated in the laboratory and continuing through the
greenhouse and field. May be assigned similar oversight
responsibilities in non-crop projects through to
commercialization.
Primary Responsibility:
Is
responsible for managing trait development through various
phases to commercialization. Coordinates the flow of
material through the laboratory phase with the respective
laboratory personnel. Reports changes to expected timelines
to supervisory management, and in consultation with other
project personnel initiates, manages and coordinates the
preparation of technical timeline reports for internal and
external mandate groups.
Plans and executes research and development activities
directed toward the efficient and effective assessment of
traits in the greenhouse, which includes all phases of
greenhouse plant culture, trait evaluation and sampling.
Where required leads activities in the design and
development of greenhouse-based sampling and evaluation
techniques. Possesses broad knowledge of plant growth and
culture in a greenhouse environment and is capable of
independent actions designed to improve/trouble shoot
problem areas. Collects and analyses data as necessary and
serves as in-house consultant on plant growth. May act as
spokesperson on project development activities and advisor
to top management. Performs initial activities relating to
material production in the greenhouse including seed
production, crossing, harvesting and cleaning. Prepares
Cibus specification sheets and ensures proper trait audit
processes are in place prior to transfer to the field
program.
Will support field personnel and activities through the
development and supervision of proper seed stock management.
This may include organizing, packaging and the distribution
to cooperators of mature seed using optimal seed handling
protocols. May assist in coordination of field test in CA
and AZ as needed. Travels to outlying sites and winter
nursery facilities as needed to assist in the implementation
of field evaluation for traits.
Trains and supervises other personnel to assist with
greenhouse management, watering, and seed inventory and
packaging.
Job Level:
Works on
complex problems where analysis of situations or data
requires and in-depth evaluation of various factors.
Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and
policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation
criteria for obtaining results. Has expert knowledge of
scientific principles and concepts. Is expected to provide
improved methods or procedures on new assignments and may
provide guidance to other lower level personnel. Requires an
advanced degree or equivalent experience in a plant
production, horticulture or related field with a minimum of
5 to 8 years of experience in project management. Basic
computer skills necessary, database experience a plus.
