Seneca Foods Corporation, an established Vegetable Processing Company, wishes to recruit a Plant Scientist with responsibilities for vegetable breeding.

Reports to: Director of Operations

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The Plant Scientist will be responsible for the green bean breeding program at Seneca Foods Corporation. This includes breeding, development and introduction of proprietary green bean varieties. Other duties may be assigned within Seneca Foods Corporation’s overall breeding programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Prepares and executes breeding nursery, disease nurseries and field trials in consultation with the Senior Plant Scientist. (60%)

2. Prepares and executes seed maintenance and multiplication of all green bean breeder seed (20%)

3. Coordinates and applies appropriate new technology in conjunction with Universities and/or Private Companies. (10%)

4. Assists the Senior Plant Scientist in research activities including preparing reports and managing data. (10%)

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires an advanced degree in plant breeding (or a related field), thorough working experience in plant breeding and knowledge of plant pathology and molecular techniques.

OTHER

• Starting annual salary range of $50,000 - $60,000.

• Travel < 10%.

• Overtime expected during Ag season.
