Helen Krasner

Feature Writer Aviation Feature Writer
Helen Krasner, Helen Krasner

Helen learned to fly small aeroplanes in 1997, then discovered helicopters a year later. She was totally hooked on rotary flying from the start, and the addiction soon led to a career change when she acquired a Commercial Helicopter Licence in 2001 and an Instructor's Rating two years later.

Helen has been writing for many years, usually about her own experiences; her first article was published in a national newspaper when she was 12 years old. So combining flying and writing was natural for her - she wrote about her flying experiences and her articles were soon published. Then in 2004 she wrote about some helicopter flying she'd done in Russia, and the article was short-listed for one of the Aerospace Journalist of the Year Awards. This led to much more writing, and soon she was writing regularly for the magazine Today's Pilot, and also for Flight Training News. She did flight test articles, getting to fly some interesting helicopters, and also profiles of famous pilots such as Jennifer Murray, Polly Vacher, and Lettice Curtis.

These days Helen combines this magazine writing with instructing part time for Staffordshire Helicopters at Tatenhill Airfield, near Burton-on-Trent, in the East Midlands in England (email her for details). She also has a book, "The Helicopter Pilot's Companion", which was published by Crowood Press in October 2008. It is her second book; the first - Midges, Maps and Muesli - was an account of a 5,000 mile walk around the coast of Britain which she completed in 1987. Signed copies are still available from helen@krasner.wanadoo.co.uk. Both books are also available on Amazon, from this page.

Helen also runs a small craft business, making and selling Pixelhobby kits and supplies. Pixelhobby is a fairly new and rapidly growing craft from Holland, which enables you to make mini-mosaics using your own pictures and photos. See Helen's website for further details and buying information. .

Helen's other interests and areas of expertise are cats (owner of five and volunteer for animal welfare centre), travel (visited over 60 countries), yoga (practised for many years), homeopathy (20 years personal use), and personal finance.

Feel free to email Helen about any of the above, at helen@krasner.wanadoo.co.uk.
