Graduate School, USDA and University of the District of Columbia (UDC) The Graduate School’s Collegiate Studies Certificate will transfer to a UDC associate’s degree or a bachelor’s of arts or science degree. In addition, all of the Graduate School's certificates and courses will be considered for transfer to the University of the District of Columbia. About the UDC The University of the District of Columbia is the only public university in the District of Columbia. The University's antecedent institutions, District of Columbia Teachers College (1851), Federal City College (1966) and Washington Technical Institute (1966), were consolidated as the result of legislation. Established in 1976 with the appointment of the first Board of Trustees, the University began its mission to provide access and opportunity: access to affordable higher education and opportunity for success. Congress granted the University land-grant status with all the rights and responsibilities of the other land-grant colleges in the 50 states, including funding from the USDA. The University of the District of Columbia consists of the College of Arts and Sciences; the School of Business and Public Administration; the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; the David A. Clark Law School and the Division of Community Outreach and Extension Services, which includes the Office of Continuing Education. The University of the District of Columbia is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of College and Schools. The University is a member of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area. Meeting the needs of adult learners The University of the District of Columbia offers open admission, affordable excellence, late afternoon and evening courses, fall, spring and summer classes, and Metro accessibility (Red Line Van Ness/UDC).
