Creating a direct link to a journal or book

The simplest syntax to use for linking to a journal homepage on Ingenta is:

http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/<issn>

where <issn> is replaced by the journal's paper or electronic ISSN.

The following alternative syntax can also be used:

http://openurl.ingenta.com/content?genre=journal&issn=…

You simply need to add the journal’s ISSN – the syntax can accept electronic ISSN or paper ISSN in this field.

To link to a monograph or book homepage, you should use the following syntax:

http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/<isbn>

where <isbn> is replaced by the book or monograph's ISBN.

Creating a direct link to an article

The recommended base URL for linking to a journal article on Ingenta is:

http://openurl.ingenta.com/content?genre=article

You then need to specify the article required by adding metadata elements to the URL.  Ingenta recommends including the following elements as a minimum to obtain best results:

ISSN (&issn=)
Volume (&volume=)
Issue (&issue=)
Start page of article (&spage=)
End page of article (&epage=)

For example:

http://openurl.ingenta.com/content?genre=article&issn=1368-9800&volume=7&issue=4&spage=473&epage=474

Article-level links take the user to the article abstract page on IngentaConnect.  From here the user can log in or complete a pay-per-view purchase to access the full text and associated content.
