G. Denise Lance recently earned her Ph.D. in special education at the University of Kansas. Denise received her B.A. in English and psychology from William Jewell College and an M.S.Ed. in special education from the University of Kansas.

She is an assistive technology consultant, web author, and freelance writer. For three years, Denise has managed the Virtual Assistive Technology Center, a web site providing free and inexpensive software for individuals with disabilities, answers to questions regarding special education technology, and book reviews about technology for individuals with disabilities. She has developed web sites for deaf education courses and has moderated on-line discussions about the education of students with severe/multiple disabilities. She served as technical consultant for the Assistive Technology Educational Network (ATEN) of Florida for two years and has published several articles about assistive technology and her own experiences living with cerebral palsy.

Denise has intimate knowledge of special education, both as a professional and as one of the first students with severe disabilities to attend public schools throughout her educational career. Her hobbies incklude playing with computers, surfing the net, reading, and listening to music, especially that of Nanci Griffith, Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Jewel, Dave Matthews Band, Lyle Lovett, and Melissa Etheridge.
