I lead a life led purely by chance and circumstance. I can change ideas at the drop of a hat and go in a completely different direction. That said, my elective classes always had little to do with my actual program in school, and my list of jobs in the past two years required a separate sheet to list all of them in my passport application. After high school, the only thing I knew that I wanted to do was to continue going to school, so I ended up studying at Champlain Regional College in Creative Arts, thinking that this particular program would in some way help me as a writer. I switched out of the program two days later, and went into Social Sciences instead. This program was much more my speed- smatterings of many disciplines, and if you didn't like the course, you never had to take another one like it again. Two years later, I was ready to go to University and study English literature. While expanding on my love of literature and reading everything from "Beowulf" to Yann Martel's "Life of Pi," I was also running my own once-a-week radio show at the campus station, and taking courses that had absolutely nothing to do with my program. I feel that my experiences have helped to broaden my horizons, and allow me to write about a range of topics with authority, even if each topic has nothing to do with the last. I love writing and literature, but I am also drawn to traveling, art, health, and many other areas. As well, I'll be embarking on the ultimate student dream: I'll be carting myself and a giant backpack around Europe for six months. If that alone can't further broaden my horizons, I don't know what will!
