Forest plans to light several large slash piles near Rapid City
starting January 5 and continuing through January 9, 2008.

Damage Historic Williams Ranch Buildings The Hell Canyon
Ranger District needs help to find vandals who damaged the historic
Williams Ranch near Pringle, SD, recently.

District Ranger to Discuss Projects and Plans The Black
Hills National Forest and Prairie Hills Audubon Society invite
the public to a meeting to discuss projects and plans on the
Bearlodge Ranger District.

- Forest Plan to Reduce Hot Fires & Insect Attacks The
Black Hills National Forest will work to reduce the risk of
high-intensity wildfire, reduce the risk of mountain pine beetle
infestation, and provide diverse habitat for wildlife.

Public Invited to Comment on Slate Castle Project The Mystic
Ranger District invites the public to an informational meeting
on December 2, 2008 for the Slate Castle Project.

Volunteers Restore Miller Cabin Frank Schmechel, a volunteer
from Wisconsin, came to the Black Hills in an effort to help
preserve a piece of history.

own fresh Christmas tree this year from the Black Hills National

- Black Hills National Forest Initiates Visitor Use Monitoring
and Completes Plan for Area Recreational Sites The Black
Hills National Forest recently completed a 5 to 15 year proposed
plan of work related to developed facilities within the forest.

are planned for this week.

- New Project Planned to Improve Forest Health The U.S.
Forest Service is proposing to reduce fuels, regenerate pine
stands, thin the forest, expand meadows and improve aspen groves,
and protect watersheds to ensure a continuing supply of clean
water.

Board to Hear Public Comments on OHV Fee Proposal The Black
Hills National Forest Advisory Board is meeting October 15 in
its capacity as the Black Hills Recreation Resource Advisory
Committee (RRAC) to listen to public comments.

Prescribed Burn.

- "Norbeck Kids" Invites Kids on Archaeological Tour
The Norbeck Kids are off on their next adventure! A Black Hills
National Forest Service archaeologist will lead a guided tour
of the Historic Flume Trail.

- Black Hills National Forest Advisory Board to Hear About Forest
Science The Forest Service lead scientist in Rapid City
will discuss the state of scientific inquiry in the Black Hills
of South Dakota and Wyoming, from fire effects to whether management
helps blunt insect attacks.
