Review of vital legislation protecting important cultural heritage objects
The Australian Government is reviewing legislation governing objects of significant cultural heritage importance. The Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage Act 1986 and regulations are being reviewed, and public submissions are welcome until 6 March 2009.
South Australian Government proposal to open the barrages at the Coorong
A proposal to transfer sea water from the Coorong to freshwater Lake Alexandrina has been determined to be a controlled action under national environment law.
Gunns pulp mill - no approval until environmental studies complete
Federal environmental approval for the Gunns Ltd Bell Bay pulp mill will not be granted until detailed studies on the potential marine impacts have been completed.
Mandatory Disclosure of Commercial Building Energy Efficiency
The Australian Government is working with State and Territory Governments through the National Framework for Energy Efficiency to develop a new nationally consistent mandatory disclosure scheme for commercial office building energy efficiency.
State of the Environment 2011 Committee being established
The Department is seeking expressions of interest in membership on the SoE 2011 Committee. Submissions will close 18 January 2009.
National Urban Water and Desalination Plan
The Australian Government will provide $1 billion over six years to help secure water supplies for cities and towns of 50,000 people or more and projects that use desalination, recycling and stormwater harvesting.
