Ships and Vessels

All vessels sailing to New Zealand (including commercial shipping and yachts and other pleasure craft) need to meet a number of obligations prior to and on arrival to ensure New Zealand's environment, economy and people are protected from imported pests and diseases.

Arrival by sea is governed by a range of regulations and a specific process must be followed. Following this process will help ensure a speedy and efficient arrival in New Zealand.

The arrival process is the same for ALL vessels, but there is specific information for those arriving in yachts, cruise vessel passengers, cruise vessel operators and offshore oil exploration rigs.

All vessels entering New Zealand must arrive at an approved port of first arrival, unless prior application has been made and approved or in the case of emergency. On arrival a Biosecurity Inspector will inspect and clear your vessel and passengers for entry into New Zealand.

There are no charges for routine clearance of vessels at approved ports of first arrival.

For further information, contact the phone number or email address for the MAF Biosecurity Inspectors at your intended arrival port.
