Feeding the world and saving the planet is a tall order. Crop and soil scientists improve how we grow our food, fuel, and fiber. Our faculty use cutting-edge biotechnology to develop better plant varieties, and are known around the globe for pioneering research in sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture and cropping systems. We offer nationally competitive undergraduate and graduate degrees in both crop and soil sciences.

B.S. and M.S. options in Turf Management

Spend your days on the golf course.

Our turfgrass management program is a popular option for students interested in pursuing careers as golf course and athletic field managers. Students gain hands-on experience at the WSU Turf Research farm and the new 18-hole, championship golf course near campus. Internships place students at quality golf courses and sports fields across the country, giving them invaluable work experience prior to graduating. Fellowship Opportunity

Crop and Soil Sciences, Biological Systems Engineering, and the School of Economic Sciences at Washington State University offer a multidisciplinary graduate program to train graduate students in an interdisciplinary and international program in sustainable development and natural resource management, linking engineering and economic sciences. The program is funded by the USDA Food and Agricultural Sciences National Needs Graduate Fellowship Program. Learn more.

R. James Cook and Diter von Wettstein, two of the four WSU professors inducted into the founding class of the Washington State Academy of Sciences, have roots in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences. Read more.

Jerry Glover, who earned three degrees at Washington State University from 1997 to 2001, is described as one of the “five crop researchers who could change the world,” in a news feature by Emma Marris in the current issue of Nature, the international weekly science journal. Read more.

Cogger Awarded Grant to Design Production Strategies for Organic Farms

A 16-member organic farming systems team led by Craig Cogger, a soil nutrient management specialist at Washington State University’s Puyallup Research and Extension Center, has landed a $644,232 grant from the USDA-CSREES Integrated Organic Program to design production strategies for stewardship and profit on fresh market organic farms. WSU Expands Course Offerings in Nation's First Online Certificate in Organic Ag

Washington State University, the first institution in the country to offer an academic major in organic agriculture and the first to offer an online certificate in organic ag, has now expanded its online course offerings in the organic agriculture certificate program. Three new courses that lead to the Certificate in Organic Agriculture will be offered this spring semester. Read more.
