Welcome

to the Simple Grandeur of Florida's nature

Nature photography has long been a love of mine. I invite you to enjoy the photographs on this site and to learn from them

Please respect my ownership and adhere to the conditions of use.

What's Here

There are four principle types of photography on this site: Florida plant photographs, Florida wildlife photographs, Florida ecosystem photographs, and a collection of personal favorites that do not fall into any of those categories and which extend far beyond Florida.

Every effort has been made to identify plants correctly. However, there are no guarantees! For a collection of images that have been identified by experienced and qualified Florida plant taxonomists, please see the Universitiy of South Florida, Institute for Systematic Botany link (see the menue "Resources").

Thank you for the many compliments I have received regarding this photography.

Short Cuts

Photographs of Rare Florida Plants. These are plants that are classified by one or more governmental agencies or private conservation organizations as rare, endangered, threatened, or imperilled. Irrestpective of language, this means RARE and possibly at risk of extinction or elimination by human activities.

Photographs of Native Plants that characterize natural Florida. This is a very long list! Use the menu to search for specific plants of interest!

Photographs of Non-Native Plants that have been reported growing wild in Florida. Some of these species are harmful. Some are very hurtful. Some are OK in cities but totally undesirable in rural settings. Some have joined our native flora but have not harmed it. Some are valuable and useful landscape plants. Some are plants that we rely upon for food or domestic animal forage. A few are uncertain.

Photographs of Non-Native Plants that may be 'naturalized' in Florida. Naturalized does not mean 'native'! It means that the plant reproduces on its own. This classification means 'alien' or 'exotic' or 'non-native' and includes all invasive species.

Photographs of Invasive Plants in Florida. These are the BAD plants that HARM Florida's wonderful native ecosystems. I sincerely hope that you will consider eliminating these plants from your landscaping plans!
