Some environmental contaminants have pulmonary and cardiovascular effects on human health when they affect the respiratory and circulatory systems, respectively. SBRP-funded research focuses on developing reliable indicators and rapid assessment for detecting the risks of short and long-term exposures. Specifically, additional effort is necessary to develop systems capable of evaluating hazardous waste sites for the presence of potential lung and blood toxicants.
