The Science Ambassador Workshop
The Science Ambassador program begins with a dynamic workshop that provides the foundation for the lesson plans being developed throughout the rest of the program. During this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to
- tour selected CDC facilities, including the CDC Global Health Odyssey;
- participate in presentations by CDC scientists on public health-related topics;
- receive training from Georgia Learning Connections (GLC) professionals on developing and delivering effective lesson plans; and
- receive educational materials from GLC and CDC.
Two 5-day workshops will be held. Participants should select the workshop session that works best with their schedule. The first workshop will be held on June 16-20, 2008, and the second on July 21-25, 2008. Each workshop covers multiple topics, to be determined. During each workshop, participants will
- interact with CDC scientists,
- participate in multiple sessions on selected topics led by public health professionals,
- participate in a seminar on developing educationally appropriate lesson plans,
- work in teams to develop example science lesson plans based on the different sessions and topics presented,
- enhance their professional network of teachers and scientists, and
- present lesson plan ideas to peers at the end of the workshop.
Lunches are provided during the workshop, and CDC funds travel and lodging for participants.Click here for more information about the 2008 Science Ambassador workshop or about the application process. |
