Lawrence Warder Confirmed as Chief Financial Officer

U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings today announced that the U.S. Senate has confirmed Lawrence Warder as Chief Financial Officer at the U.S. Department of Education.

"I am so pleased to have Larry join my team here at the Department," Secretary Spellings said. "His vast experience and sterling reputation in the financial sector will help us account for every dollar received and invested by this Department. He will work to ensure that every dollar is spent wisely, in the best interest of students and taxpayers alike."

In his new position, Warder will serve as the principal advisor to Secretary Spellings on all matters related to discretionary grant-making, cooperative agreements and procurement, as well as financial management, financial control and accounting at the Department.

Previously, Warder served as global director of operations for Deloitte Consulting, a company he worked for since 1969. Throughout his more than thirty years with the company, Warder held senior management positions in the London, New York, Dallas and Detroit offices. Earlier in his career, Warder served as supervisor for financial systems at General Tire and Rubber Company.

Warder received his Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of Akron and his Masters in Business Administration from Kent State University. He is a certified management consultant, management accountant and public accountant. Warder and his wife, Dianne, have two children and seven grandchildren.
