Florida A&M University Collaborator: Ms. Angela McKenzie-Jakes (replacing Dr. Pamela Hunter)
Current Position: Extension Animal Science Specialist This position is full-time, 12 month position, 60% extension and 40% research. Current Responsibilities: Provide leadership (program leader) for the state major program FL-261 (Small Animal and Small Farm Profitability and Sustainability), develop plans of work and accomplishment reports for the state major program, develop educational materials for goat producers, plan and conduct conferences, workshops, seminars, clinics, short courses and field days on and off research station with farmers, serve on a collaborative team to conduct basic and applied research on goats, actively participate as part of the FAMU and IFAS team responsible for the statewide extension small animal livestock programs, work with private entities, cooperatives and community based organizations with small livestock programs, attend state and regional workshops, conferences and meetings to acquire current information on production and management of livestock enterprises and seek additional funding to expand the overall livestock programs for small farmers. The University: Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is a four-year, public, co-educational and fully accredited 1890 land grant institution of higher learning. The main campus consist of 419 acres located on the highest of seven hills in Tallahassee, the capital of Florida. The total assets of the University are valued over $190 million dollars. The campus is comprised of 131 buildings and has a current operating budget of over $210,000,000. Florida A&M University student enrollment population consists primarily of undergraduates (students enrolled at the lower division). The University offers 62 bachelor’s degrees in 103 majors/tracks. 36 master’s degrees with 56 majors/tracks are offered within eleven of the University’s 13 schools and colleges.
