Organic Grain Production and Marketing

Market growth for organic crops is predicted to continue the 23% annual growth rate of the past 10 years (OTA 2004) with sales in 2005 expected to reach $20 billion. Organic grain is playing a large and growing part in this industry, and North Carolina is poised to be a player in the organic grain market.

wheatThe demand for organic grain and livestock feed in North Carolina is growing each year, as well. Organic mills and livestock producers in the state need organic grain, and the organic dairy industry in NC will further increase the demand for organic grain and forage crops. There is a great opportunity for farmers interested in organic grain production to meet this demand.

Since there has been very little information available on the production and marketing of organic grain and other field crops for North Carolina, this website has been developed to provide information on organic grain crop production, certification and marketing for farmers, Extension agents and others interested in organic grain crops.
