Blagojevich today announced the promotion of Dean Martinez to Deputy Governor for the state of Illinois. Martinez, the son of Cuban immigrants, is the first Latino Deputy Governor in Illinois history. He will join Deputy Governors Bob Greenlee and Louanner Peters to steer key initiatives of the Governor. In his new role, Martinez will oversee the State’s economic development, infrastructure, business regulation and environmental agencies, and will be a close advisor to the Governor on policies and initiatives to create jobs, invest in infrastructure, stimulate the Illinois economy and advance the Governor’s environmental agenda. 11/12/08 - Governor Blagojevich announces John Filan as the New Executive Director of the Illinois Finance Authority Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today announced that John Filan will serve as the new Executive Director of the Illinois Finance Authority (IFA). At their meeting today, the IFA Board of Directors unanimously voted in favor of Filan’s appointment. Filan, the State of Illinois’ current Chief Operating Officer, brings a wealth of management and financial expertise to the Authority to advance Governor Blagojevich’s efforts to create and retain jobs for Illinois residents in these challenging economic times. 10/29/08 - Governor Blagojevich Launches Task Force to Focus on Pontiac Correctional Center Transition State Agencies join Efforts to Help the Pontiac Community during the Closure SPRINGFIELD – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today announced the creation of an inter-agency task force to ease the impact that the closure of Pontiac Correctional Center will have on the community, including businesses and local governments. The Task Force will pool all available and necessary state resources to preserve the economic well-being and quality of life for Pontiac and surrounding communities. 10/29/08 - Governor Blagojevich Announces Completion of Interstate 55 Widening Project I-55 Corridor Improvement Project added one lane in each direction from Weber Rd to I-80; goal is to increase safety and reduce congestion ROMEOVILLE – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today announced the completion of the $165 million Corridor Improvement Project of Interstate 55 in Will County. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) held a ceremony today that included local and state officials celebrating the end of major construction activities for the project. The project entailed adding a third lane to the roadway in both directions from Weber Rd. to I-80, in an effort to improve safety and reduce congestion. 10/28/08 - Blagojevich Administration Successfully Collects Child Support from Parents Seeking Hunting and Fishing Licenses Program’s First Year Contributes to Record FY08 Collections CHICAGO – Denying the hunting and fishing licenses of deadbeat parents has proven to be an effective incentive to getting some parents in Illinois to pay child support, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich announced today. September marks one year since the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) teamed up with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to deny hunting and fishing licenses from parents who are not paying child support. In its first year, the program has resulted in approximately $263,506 of child support being collected for Illinois families. 10/27/08 - Governor Blagojevich Announces Illinois Poverty Summit for December 9-10, 2008 Registration Now Open: Marian Wright Edelman, National Advocate for Children and Author, to offer Opening Keynote Address CHICAGO – As part of the ongoing effort to help Illinoisans through the tough economic times, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today announced that his administration will convene the first Illinois Poverty Summit, entitled Opportunities for Change: Taking Action to End Extreme Poverty in Illinois, on December 9th and 10th, 2008. The summit will be hosted in partnership with Northwestern University's Institute for Policy Research in Evanston, IL. Those interested in attending the summit can register online at www.illinois.gov/povertysummit. 10/27/08 - Blagojevich Administration Selects Schools for Second Year of Operation Teen Safe Driving Initiative Innovative program contributed to significant drop in teen driving fatalities during its first year SPRINGFIELD – Building upon the success of the inaugural 2008 Operation Teen Safe Driving initiative, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today announced the selection of 106 selected entries from Illinois high schools for the 2009 statewide safety program. Launched in November 2007, Operation Teen Safe Driving is a statewide initiative designed to help Illinois high schools implement local teen-led safe driving campaigns to decrease the number of traffic fatalities and crashes involving teenagers.
