The PGC sets hunting and trapping seasons and regulations that govern the taking of white-tailed deer, black bear, elk, wild turkey, ruffed grouse, ring-necked pheasants and migratory waterfowl, as well as the eastern coyote, bobcat and beaver. It manages reintroduced species, threatened species and endangered species such as the bald eagle, fisher, river otter and peregrine falcon, as well as nongame species that include neotropical migratory birds such as the ruby-throated hummingbird, bobolink, whip-poor-will and rose-breasted grosbeak, as well as year-round resident species such as the American goldfinch, eastern bluebird, great-horned owl and pileated woodpecker. This website provides information about the PGC's State Game Lands system; Middle Creek and Pymatuning Wildlife Management Areas; the Hunter-Trapper Education Program, State Wildlife Grants Program and Deer Management Assistance Program, as well as wildlife news, hunting news, wildlife photographs, nuisance wildlife assistance and conservation history.Home Header Border

First Big Game Harvest Certificates

Dear Hunter:

Every hunting career starts with a first. Your first gun. Your first hunt. Your first harvest. The Pennsylvania Game Commission recognizes the importance of firsts and has created a certificate to help successful hunters commemorate their first big game harvest whether it was a white-tailed deer, wild turkey, black bear or the majestic elk.

If you were fortunate enough to have taken a big game animal in Penn's Woods, let me be the first from the agency to congratulate you on your accomplishment. I'm sure your harvest will be a source of inspiration and a stop on memory lane that you will revisit again and again. Please recognize, too, that your harvest likely is an unforgettable event your family will retell in years to come.

Given the importance of big game firsts to hunters and their families, the Game Commission is offering an attractive certificate suitable for framing that - with minimal effort - proudly will showcase that special moment in a hunter's life and a family's hunting history. If you'd like to start the process for developing a "First Big Game Harvest" certificate, click on one of categories listed below this greeting and fill in your name, hunting device used and date.

In order to properly view, complete and print these certificate templates, please make sure that your computer has Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 installed. If not, you can obtain a free update for your Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Please also remember that the Game Commission is interested in publishing on its website photos/brief accounts of your annual harvests of certain big game animals and furbearers. Visit the Junior Hunter Photo Scrapbook and the Pennsylvania Hunter/Trapper Scrapbook for more details. Posting your memories in these scrapbooks shares your accomplishments with the Commonwealth's hunting community and provides encouragement to those who are looking for their first big game hunting success.

Once again, congratulations on your accomplishment, and thank you for your interest in the Game Commission's programs. Please continue to hunt safely and good luck afield in your future hunting endeavors.

Sincerely,

Carl G. Roe
Executive Director
Pennsylvania Game Commission
