11/10/08 - Blagojevich Administration Offers Financial Assistance to Nurses Working in Veterans’ Homes
More than $1.2 million in grants to repay student loans for nurses caring for state’s military heroes
While many hard working Illinoisans are facing the challenges of the national economic crisis, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today is reminding nurses throughout the state that financial assistance is available to help them pay off student loans if working at Illinois Veterans’ Homes. Through the Illinois Veterans’ Home Nurse Loan Repayment Program, nurses who provide care for Illinois Veterans in the state’s Veterans’ Homes are eligible to have as much as $5,000 of their student loans repaid by the state for up to four years. A total of $1.22 million in grants is available for nurses this fiscal year.

10/16/08 - Governor Blagojevich Launches Civil Engineer Scholarship Program
Students can qualify for up to $7,000 each academic year
With a record number of civil engineers expected to retire within the next few years, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich is pleased to announce the Illinois Department of Transportation’s first Civil Engineer Scholarship Program. Scholarships provided as part of this new program will give selected students up to $7,000 per academic year as an incentive to continue their civil engineering education.

10/02/08 - Illinois EPA hosts Pharmaceutical Summit and Conference
Stakeholder groups work on ways of reducing pharmaceuticals and personal care products in drinking water
SPRINGFIELD—As part of its overall efforts to ensure that citizen’s of Illinois continue to have high quality and safe sources of drinking water, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Director Doug Scott Wednesday convened a Summit at the University of Illinois at Springfield to discuss ways to reduce the amounts of pharmaceuticals and personal care products being discharged into waters of the state that ultimately become a source of drinking water.
