Financial Aid

Applying for Financial Aid
Step 1: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) The FAFSA is the starting point for all students to apply for Federal and State financial aid. Here are your options for applying:

Be sure to list MCC's federal school code (001875)

Step 2: Submit your completed FAFSA

If you complete the online version of the FAFSA, you must apply for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov to electronically sign you FAFSA. If you're a dependent student, your parents will also need to apply for a PIN. If you do not have an email address, you can print the signature page (be sure to sign it) and send to the address provided on the signature page.
If you complete the paper version of the FAFSA, mail your application in the envelope provided in the instruction book.

Step 3: Watch for your Student Aid Report (SAR)

Once you receive your SAR, either by email or regular mail, you should verify that all information listed on it is accurate. If there are no corrections you can simply file it for your records. If there are corrections, contact the financial aid office and they will make those adjustments for you.

By listing Marshalltown Community College on your FAFSA form, our financial aid office will automatically receive a copy of your SAR information. If you didn't list MCC on your SAR you can send the SAR to us and we can award funds based on that document.

Step 4: The MCC Financial Aid Office will review the SAR and determine what you are eligible to receive.

You may be asked to submit tax records and other documents if necessary. About 30% of all FAFSA applications are randomly selected by the federal processing center to be verified. The school is then required to gather tax information to verify the data you submitted.

Once our office has received all documentation needed to complete your file, you will receive a financial aid award letter indicating the types and amounts of assistance you are eligible to receive. You will need to sign the award letter and all loan documents (if you're borrowing loan money) and return those to the MCC Financial Aid Office so that we can reserve these funds for you.
