Vietnam will be among the hardest hit by climate change, experts say

Vietnam is among many coastal areas found by a recent World Vision report to be extremely vulnerable to the effects of climate change. By 2100, sea level may rise by a meter, with devastating consequences for a country with high population density, low-lying flood plains and large river deltas. The world’s largest rice producer and second-largest rice exporter must now rethink the place of agriculture in a country where the major commodity crops are grown on low-lying, flood-prone deltas and extreme weather patterns may only become more so. Vietnam is yet another example of a poor country bearing the effects of emissions from developed countries, and world rice markets may suffer as a result. Full Story: Inter Press Service
