Academic Support Services

Marshalltown Community College provides a variety of academic support services to help students be successful. Listed here are several individuals and links that may be helpful to you, depending on what you need. If you aren't sure which of these individuals or departments to contact, email mccinfo@iavalley.edu and we'll put you in touch with the right person!
  • Academic Advising – Each MCC student is assigned an academic advisor, who assists them in choosing courses and seeing that the appropriate coursework is taken to assure graduation, transfer to another college or university, or completion of a career program. Students should maintain regular contact with their academic advisor throughout the year and are invited to contact members of the counseling staff whenever needed. If you're unsure who your academic advisor is, contact the MCC Registrar's Office and they can look it up for you.
  • Counseling – MCC has two full-time counselors, Dr. Dava James (room 201) and Dan Key (room 203). Counseling services include help with decisions on curriculum choices, vocational development, and problems of a personal or social nature. Special counseling services are also available for older students enrolling in college after being away from formal education. MCC's counseling services are free and available to all students. For information about our vocational rehabilitation counseling, click on the Special Needs/Accommodations link below.
  • Library – A variety of resources, including computer stations, are available in MCC's B.J. Harrison Library. Stop in the library (room 304) or click here to use the library's online services.
  • Student Success Center – The MCC Student Success Center is located in rooms 410-412, and is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. while college classes are in session. Click here for more detailed information about the Student Success Center.
