Missy Sharer, Class of 1989

MCC - 1st teamAll Region 1988, 1989; 2nd Team All American 1989; Academic All American 1989

Grinnell College - GTE Player of the year 1991; Kodak All American 1991; 1st Team All Conference 1990, 1991

My experience at MCC was very rewarding in many different ways. As a student-athlete I valued the small class size, personal contact with instructors, and the quality of coaching I received. It was nice to stay close to home to play basketball. My family andfriends were able to attend the games. I have also had experience as an MCC faculty. I was the head women's basketball coach in the 1990's. I was surrounded by good people who really helped me advance my career. Now, as a Tiger alum and community member, I still enjoy supporting the athletes and coaches at MCC.
Attending MCC is an outstanding way to get a quality and personalized education. You will never be "just a number" here!

Megan Miller, Class of 2001

MCC - Academic All-American,2001; Outstanding Student of the Year Award, 2001; 2nd Team All Region, 2000; 1st Team All Region, 2001; Regional All Tournament Team, 2001

Southern Illinois University - Commissioners Academic Excellence Award, 2003;PresidentsAcademic Excellence Award, 2003

Playing basketball at MCC gave me opportunities that I did not have coming directly out of high school. Due to the added skills and exposure I received by playing at this level, I was able to earn a full scholarship to Southern Illinois University. I did not have any looks from Division I programs out of high school, but after MCC I had a few to choose from. I not only gained a great education on the basketball court but also in the classroom. With MCCs smaller class sizes, instructors can give you more one-on-one attention and be more directly involved in your education. You will never see a teachers assistant or graduate assistant teaching a course at MCC. The best part of being a student-athlete at MCC is the immense support you receive by faculty and staff. It is not unusual to see a lot of faculty and staff members in the stands during basketball games. It is this supportive atmosphere that drew me back to Marshalltown Community College for a career and the opportunity to coach. I just hope that I can help student-athletes reach their dreams like I was able to by playing basketball for the Tigers!

Sara Goodman, Class of 2005

MCC - 1st Team All Region 2005; Academic American 2005

Iowa Wesleyan - 2 time Conference Champ and 2 time National Tournament Qualifier.

Marshalltown Community College was a great place to start my collegiate basketball career. The coaches really cared about us as a team and as individual people. I was able to take the classes I needed for my major and they worked around my basketball and work schedules. The community support was great and living in Marshalltown was a wonderful two years that I will never forget. Being at MCC allowed me to develop my basketball skills that I would carry with me to a four year school. My AA degree from Marshalltown also kept me on track to graduate in four years.
