Kentucky Educational Television (KET)
Version of the Hunter Education Program
KET and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources have joined
forces to provide participants the opportunity to take the Hunter Education Course by
viewing the videotapes produced by KET.
The Hunter Education course requires a minimum of ten hours of training as
provided in 301 KAR 2:185. The first six hours may be taken in one of two ways.
You may take the traditional HE course with an instructor on site.
The second way is to watch the videotapes. These tapes are available from most libraries, or they can
be purchased for $75 from KET by calling 1-800-945-9167.
To complete the last four hours, you are required to attend the shooting
range training taught by a state certified hunter education instructor. This
requires live firing of a rifle, handgun, shotgun and/or archery tackle, exhibit a
responsible attitude and pass the written examination with a minimum score of 81%.
Necessary firearms, ammunition and equipment will be provided. The graduate patch
and the course completion card will be issued at the range or mailed to you within two
weeks. The instructor, upon successful completion, may provide a temporary card or
letter.
If you have special needs, the Department will make reasonable
accommodations to help you have an opportunity to successfully complete the course.
Please call 1-800-858-1549 ext. 461 if you have needs, questions or comments.
If you would like more information and would like for us to mail you a
packet, please call 1-800-858-1549. Included in the packet we will send you is a
Hunter's Education Course Manual and an affidavit which must be signed an notarized before
arriving at the range and given to the instructor.
