NCDF has been honing an expertise in cooperative lending for 30 years. Because we are a co-op of co-ops ourselves, we understand the unique ownership and governance structure of cooperatives, and the benefits that co-ops provide to their communities. Who can borrow from the Fund?

Any co-op that is a member of the Fund and is located in our service area* can apply for a loan from NCDF. Our current borrowers include consumer, worker, producer and housing cooperatives.

 

What can co-ops use the loan for?

Expansion and relocation. NCDF has helped many cooperatives successfully expand and relocate.

Working capital. NCDF provides flexible loan terms and lines of credit to fit your needs.

Rehab and replacement. If you own the building where your co-op is located, or if you are a member of a housing co-op that needs funding for rehab or other capital improvements, you've come to the right place! NCDF can put a financing package together that fits your needs.

Equipment. Need a freezer to expand your frozen foods section? Want to convert your delivery truck to biodiesel? Maybe a new computer system would help your business gain efficient? NCDF can help.

Other needs. We're happy to work with you if your financing needs don't fit into any particular category. Cooperatives have often thought of new and innovative approaches to doing business, and NCDF supports your creative approach through flexible financing.

* Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Michigan, Illinois, Montana and Indiana. Petitions from cooperatives in other states are considered by the NCDF board on a case-by-case basis.

Where do we start?

Step 1

Call us! We would like to hear about your vision for your cooperative, and may be able to direct you to additional resources.

Step 2

Work with our loan officer to complete the loan appication:
under $60,000 or over $60,000 and all real estate purchases.

Step 3  

NCDF staff will review the application and ask for any additional information.

Step 4  

NCDF has a streamlined process for loan approval, and will do its best to meet your timeline.
